The purpose of the College facilities are to emulate real world settings, so students can use industry equipment and develop the skills needed to be work ready. The graphics I have created provide the finishing touches to make the surroundings feel more immersive.
Over time, I have used large-scale wall vinyls and decals, as well as framed prints and posters, around the College campuses, to make the learning environments inspiring for students and visitors. I have intentionally made them colourful and eye-catching, whilst still adhering to the brand guidelines and be part of the College Group identity.
For me to design the murals to scale, I capture photos of the empty rooms, take measurements of the walls, and mockup how the finished designs will look on Photoshop. Below are some of the projects I have worked on to bring these spaces to life.
Patient Care Training Centre
Developed in partnership with West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust for the NHS Careers Gateway, the College introduced a mock hospital ward for students on Health & Social Care courses to learn in a real life environment with Laerdal mannequins and other industry-standard equipment.
I was tasked with adding colour to the space and chose to incorporate some of the NHS Trust's branding with the College's. I was provided with the NHS Trust's guidelines and made sure to follow them correctly. I didn't want to add too much as hospital wards are very clinical and minimal so kept it mainly to the outside. I used the iconic 'NHS Blue' colour and the font for the text is Gotham which is one of the WHCG fonts. This design was signed off by the NHS Trust.
New Bedford Road Studios
The music studios at the Luton campus were named as 'New Bedford Road Studios' as a nod to the famous Abbey Road Studios to make them feel professional and aspiring for the music students.
The Salon at West Herts College
The beauty salons were in need of an update including things like new curtains, wash basin areas and new decor on the walls, which was my contribution to the project.
The Salon already had a branding so I matched the paint colour to the acrylic logo circle and added panelling to give a luxury feel to the rooms.
